Förbättrad magnetresonansavbildning av magnesiumimplantat med hjälp av paramagnetiska kontrastmedel

- Abstract
- In orthopedic surgery, metals such as titanium and magnesium are commonly used in implants. To monitor the performance of the implant over time, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is often used. Due to the differing magnetic properties of metals and body tissues, disturbances, known as artifacts, appear on the images. This makes it difficult to discern the boundaries between the implant and the tissue. The aim of this project is to develop a method to reduce the negative impact on image quality caused by the presence of metallic implants. To achieve this, the main focus has been on developing a contrast agent containing the substance holmium, which can modify the magnetic properties of the medium surrounding a magnesium implant to match... To achieve this, the main focus has been on developing a contrast agent containing the substance holmium, which can modify the magnetic properties of the medium surrounding a magnesium implant to match those of the implant, thereby reducing artifacts. In this project, in-vitro experiments have been conducted. A solution with magnetic susceptibility similar to that of body tissue has been combined with the developed contrast agent so that its magnetic susceptibility aligns with that of magnesium. (Less)
