- Abstract
- The study aimed to examine how counselors perceive and work with existential questions in cancer patients. The intention was to explore what experiences and perceptions the counselors had of existential questions in their work and how they worked with these in the patient meeting. Semi-structured interviews were made with ten hospital counselors working with cancer patients in the south of Sweden. The interviews were analyzed through thematic analysis and the results were examined with the help of existential theory and person-centered theory. They emphasize the importance of sensitivity and cooperation with the patient and that there is a balance in actively lifting these questions and at the same time following the patient.
