- Abstract
- Aims and methods: This study examines the discourse surrounding honour-related violence and oppression, referred to as honour violence. A discourse analysis was conducted on material from the state and organisations working with HRVF, collaborating with midwives. Two in-depth interviews with midwives gathered firsthand experiences from professionals encountering potential victims of honour violence. The study aimed to combine the discourse with the midwives' crucial work in supporting victims.
Findings: The discourse revealed varying results related to stereotypes, gender, and culture. Conclusions: The discourse highlighted the complexity of balancing non-discriminatory discussions while acknowledging the specific vulnerability of certain groups. The practical implications of the midwives' work show that stereotypes can be avoided through knowledge and conversations with affected youth. Despite occasional concerns for youth safety, midwives create safe spaces for discussing cultural issues and shaping futures without stigmatisation. However, the reception of youth exposed to honour violence may vary with each midwife, underscoring the importance of professional knowledge in decision-making. (Less)
