Abstract
This study aims to create a deeper understanding of wrestlers that are active in Sweden. The
study makes an attempt to explore an understanding of how wrestlers themselves experience
the usage of fake in relation to wrestling. The study has been conducted through interviews
and observation. The material have then been theorized through the theories of play, reci-
procity and front- and backstage.
The study has shown that wrestlers´ usage of a type of self inflicted injuries can be compa-
red to a gift and an exchange with the audience; since the audience is an equal part of the
”play”. The study has also shown that wrestlers’ personal connection with their character
