Abstract
The purpose of this study is to give an insight into the archival management of six student nations at Lund University, as well as the general view of the archive amongst the members who are responsible for the student nation archives. The majority of the student nations are well over 300 years old, but there have been few or no studies about the student nations archives, a knowledge gap this study means to fill. Using interviews and study visits as the main methods and with a focus on involvement, construction and conditions I’ve mapped out the general picture of how the student nation archives look today. Analyzing the results from the interviews with the usage of postmodern archive theory and a focus on cultural conservation showed a clear lack of knowledge surrounding the archive and an inadequate way of storing archive material. Although the informants understood the value of a well kept archive, they deprioritized it for more urgent matters, leaving most of the archives in disarray. The informants were also unaware of the power they exerted over the archive, its documents, and its accessibility. Despite this, there was a will amongst most of the informants to create a functioning and organised archive, but due to a lack of time this work has been hindered. The student nations are not obligated to store archive material other than bookkeeping, so everything kept has been saved out of interest and a will to save the nations history. (Less)
