Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in Swedish employees’ expectations of employers with regard to their age, gender, ethnicity and level of education. The study’s questions were 1) Are there differences among Swedish employees’ perceived expectations of employers with regard to a) generation, b) gender, c) ethnicity, and d) level of education? And 2) Are there interactions between the factors above and employees’ expectations of employers? The survey was conducted using an online survey of the EmpAt scale translated from English to Swedish, which was sent out to participants based on a convenience sample and a snowball sample. The results of the study showed significant differences in expectations between Generation X... (More)

And 2) Are there interactions between the factors above and employees’ expectations of employers? The survey was conducted using an online survey of the EmpAt scale translated from English to Swedish, which was sent out to participants based on a convenience sample and a snowball sample. The results of the study showed significant differences in expectations between Generation X + Baby Boomers and Generation Y, where Generation X + Baby Boomers had higher expectations of their employers. Differences were also shown between men and women, where women had higher expectations of their employers than men. When looking at interaction effects between gender and generations it was shown that both groups had a main effect, but no significant interaction effect. In the remaining groups, no significant differences or interactions were found. The validity of the study may have been affected by the translation of the EmpAt scale from English to Swedish as well as a lack of diversity in the collected data for age, ethnicity, and level of education. The results of the study can be used as a guide for future research that examines employees’ expectations of employers. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
