(2025) STVK04 20251Department of Political Science
- Abstract
- Bosnia and Herzegovina has been one of the countries in the Western Balkans mostly affected by terrorism and the phenomenon of foreign terrorist fighters, which it has had a hard time combating. The country has been on the agenda of EU integration for many years, a process which has taken a very long time, but has in recent years accelerated rather drastically. There are many theories about terrorism and what role it plays in the integration process of a country, and that it does hinder EU integration. There are further theories suggesting that the recent acceleration in enlargement is due to Russia’s war in Ukraine. These theories will be tested in the following thesis using process tracing on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU integration... (More)

There are further theories suggesting that the recent acceleration in enlargement is due to Russia’s war in Ukraine. These theories will be tested in the following thesis using process tracing on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU integration process to conclude that there is a correlation between problems with terrorism combating and procrastinated EU integration. Further conclusions also show that the drastic shift in geopolitics that the war in Ukraine contributed to, has made the EU change its path by deprioritizing terrorism as a security threat and rather prioritize Russia as a bigger threat to the security in Europe.
