The digital transformation impacts the archive sector, the threat picture is rising and creating new demands for information security. This master's thesis investigates how modern municipal archivists manage information security and the challenges they face in this evolving landscape. The study aims to complement existing research by exploring how archivists navigate the growing information security management, focusing on the core objective: ensuring the preservation, accessibility, and integrity of organizational information. Using a qualitative approach, data was gathered through interviews with four municipal archivists. The theoretical framework, institutionell theory, suggests that professional norms influence organizational structures within the archive field, leading to similar work practices driven by a desire for legitimacy. This helped analyze how archivists adapt to the changing and evolving role. Findings reveal a significant shift in the archivist's role from traditional record keepers to active participants and mentors in comprehensive information management and security. However, the study also highlights a gap: archivists' professional development often outpaces their organizations' structural evolution. Despite this, ongoing digitalization and information security compels archivists to continuously legitimize and claim their crucial role with valuable competencies for secure information handling.
