- Title: The municipal school of arts and music - "a school for everyone?" - A study of the accessibility of "Kulturskolor", focusing on the absence of fees. The aim of this thesis is to increase the understanding of a complex of problems concerning broadened recruitment of students and teachers in "Kulturskolor". - Title: The municipal school of arts and music - "a school for everyone?" - A study of the accessibility of "Kulturskolor", focusing on the absence of fees. The aim of this thesis is to increase the understanding of a complex of problems concerning broadened recruitment of students and teachers in "Kulturskolor". I have chosen to focus on three schools of performing arts offering programs free of charge to ascertain how they work with broadened recruitment and to see what effects they have achieved by having no fees. I have examined these schools through a qualitative study where I have interviewed the principals and teachers from each school. The interviews have been analysed several times and on different levels, according to the method Concentration of meaning. The results show that the absence of fees increases the possibility for children coming from families with low socioeconomic status to attend the activities of the school. Furthermore, the results also prove that the absence of fees provides increased pedagogic freedom for the schools, which contributes to broader activity, a larger diversity of pupils, and a more effective use of material and economic resources. The study also shows that schools of performing arts run by local authorities imply a discourse that encourages a certain type of tradition of education. If someone does not know the structure of this discourse or if you are not able to fulfil its demands, the chances are very small that this person will contact the school.
Syftet med denna uppsats är att öka förståelsen för problematiken kring breddad rekrytering av personal och elever i musik- och kulturskolan. Jag har valt att studera tre avgiftsfria kulturskolor för att utröna hur de arbetar med breddad rekrytering och se vilka effekter de har uppnått genom att inte ha avgifter. Jag har gjort en kvalitativ studie, där jag intervjuat lärare och rektorer från varje kulturskola. Med hjälp av metoden meningskoncentrering har intervjuerna analyserats flera gånger och på olika nivåer. Resultaten visar att avgiftsfriheten underlättar för barn kommande från familjer med låg socioekonomisk status att delta i verksamheten. Dessutom ger resultaten belägg för att avgiftsfriheten innebär en avsevärt utökad pedagogisk frihet, vilket har lett till en bredare verksamhet, en större mångfald av elever och ett mer effektivt utnyttjande av materiella och ekonomiska resurser. Studien indikerar även att kulturskolan i sig själv formulerar en diskurs som uppmuntrar en viss typ av bildningstradition. Detta innebär att om någon inte besitter denna tradition eller har förutsättningar att uppfylla dess krav, så är risken stor att denna person inte kommer att söka sig till kulturskolan. Detta skulle i så fall innebära att kulturskolan inte är lika tillgänglig för alla, eftersom endast en del av alla barn och ungdomar i Sverige idag besitter denna typ av bildningstradition. (Less)
