- Abstract
- This essay in historical archaeology deals with cultural-historical values of buildings and in
this case the old train- and ferrystation in Helsingborg. The building has from the day of its

to Denmark was handeled by the old train- and ferrystation untill 1955, when a competative
ferrycompany was built close to the old station. After a hundred years of service the old
station was closed down when a new station was built i Helsingborg in 1991 with the
intension of gathering all travelers in one building. When you determine the cultural-historical
value of a building you go through different kind of criterias which then determines the level
of protection. The old train- and ferry station hasn?t got the highest level of protection but is
regarded as a buidling with particually high value by the construction law. After reviewing
records from the municipal executive board, city council, construction committee, and
cultural committee together with articles and a questionnaire an answer started to emerge.
The building, today, is functioning as a nightclub, The Tivoli, which arauses more questions.
Is an activity dependent on a building? In this case the results say yes. The majority claim that
The Tivoli wouldn?t be The Tivoli without the building. The old train- and ferry station has
according to both municipal and citizens of Helsingborg, a high emotional value and the
majority definetly wants to preserve the building in it's rightfull environment. (Less)
