This essay is about children who have psychological and social problems. An increase part of children and young people in Sweden describe this kind of difficulties. These problems are at the same time a concern for the school as well as the social welfare. The purpose in this essay is to explore if children with psychological and social problems have the same legal rights to education as other children. The main questions are to describe the legal rights in this area and explore how schools and social welfare cooperate in order to achieve better possibilities for the children.

The facts take a legal aspect as a starting point. The most material come from Swedish laws and rules about education and social welfare. The material concerning the psychological health of children and different kinds of social work come from official investigations, reports and committees.

The used method is fall cases of decisions of supervision from the Swedish department of education called Skolverket. In this kind of supervision the problems have mostly been reported by a parent or another relative to the child. The reported child has often, during a long time, had a lot of problems.

The results of the essay are that these children get worse possibilities to education than other children. At last these children have stayed at home instead of going to school. The fall cases also show that the problems of the children are a responsibility for both school and social welfare service to solve. It seems that it is a very important issue for school and social welfare to coordinate their work in order to achieve better conditions for these children and young people in school. (Less)
