- Abstract
- Studied the impact of accountability and mental load on judgments of morally wrong, disgusting, harmful events. 85 participants (32 male, 53 female) were randomly assigned into four groups in a 2 (accountability: y/n) x 2 (load: y/n) design. Participants read stories with vivid but morally irrelevant disgusting features and judged how morally wrong the actions were. It was predicted that participants who believed that they were to account for their judgments afterwards and were under no load would make the most lenient judgments, whereas participants under load and no accountability would make the harshest moral judgments. Only the effect of accountability was significant F(1, 80) = 4.03, p < .05, and in the opposite direction than... (More)
