Abstract
The purpose for this composition was to examine what children do in their leisure time, children’s views on their leisure time related to the concepts of stress and recreation, and how children define the concept of stress. Our main questions were; What do children 11 years of age do in their leisure time? Do children think that their leisure time offers enough time for rest and recreation? Do children feel stressed in their leisure time, and if so, in what situations? Are there any differences between boys and girls? To answer these questions we designed a questionnaire which we distributed in two 5 th. grade classes. The theories we have used to interpret the results is the ecology of cognitive development, developmental psychology and... (More)

To answer these questions we designed a questionnaire which we distributed in two 5 th. grade classes. The theories we have used to interpret the results is the ecology of cognitive development, developmental psychology and research of modern childhood. Our results showed that almost half of the children felt stressed sometimes during their leisure time. One fourth of the children felt stressed and expressed that they didn't have time enough to rest or/and didn't felt rested after the weekends. Most of the children's leisure time is devoted to friends, leisure activities, homework and watching TV. The girls felt more stressed and had more planned activities compared to the boy. (Less)
