Abstract
We have done a study concerning young women, in the ages of 20 to 30, and their thoughts about, consumption of, and habits regarding alcohol. The study is the base of our essay which has been done during the last ten weeks of the sixth semester (of seven) for the Bachelor degree of Social Work Science at Socialhögskolan in Lund. We found that the habits, thoughts about and consumption of alcohol among the women did not differ particularly from the research already done on the subject. All women could find differences in alcohol behaviour between the sexes in one or many of their social spheres. According to social construction theory, drinking could never be a natural occurrence, therefore gender differences could not be explained by natural causes either. Our findings show that the differences could only be explained by social and historic constructions. (Less)
