Abstract
The purpose of this essay was to study how four municipalities have arranged their support to women who are exposed to violence. The purpose was also to study if the legislator's intentions and the National board of health and welfare's recommendations about Socialtjänstlagen 5:11 were fulfilled. The legislator and the National board of health and welfare recommended the welfare offices to offer the women sheltered apartment, economic and practical support. They also recommended the welfare offices to co-operate with other community institutions, inform the citizens about the municipalities' activities, and give the staff education about family violence. The purpose of this essay was to study how four municipalities have arranged their support to women who are exposed to violence. The legislator and the National board of health and welfare recommended the welfare offices to offer the women sheltered apartment, economic and practical support. They also recommended the welfare offices to co-operate with other community institutions, inform the citizens about the municipalities' activities, and give the staff education about family violence. The municipalities could offer these women most of the recommendations. Therefor it is possible to say that the implementation of the paragraph, Socialtjänstlagen 5:11, has been successful. But, I can not be sure that the municipalities do offer the women all that was recommended since I have not controlled the answers given to me. Considering this and that the number of women who are exposed to violence are four to five times higher than what today is reported suggests that there is probably yet much to be done. (Less)
