Abstract
The aim of my essay was to compare women's and men's ways out of drug abuse, and with help from chosen theories and concepts explain and understand women's situation. The result of my essay showed that women's greatest support on their way out of drug abuse came from family members and other near and personal relationships. Equivalent for men seemed to be support from the society - like social secretaries and different kinds of self-help groups. The turning point seemed to be very alike for men and women, and also the fact that it took many attempts before they succeeded in living without the drugs. But most of all, my essay gave me the picture of a difference between men's and women's experience of existence. The women's life stories were weighed down by more guilt and shame, something that earlier research told me as well. (Less)
