- Abstract
- Our purpose with the essay was to understand how a partner to an abuser of alcohol can be effected of her partner´s abuse. Our central questions were: - How can the partner´s effect, of her partner´s abuse of alcohol, find expression and how can the relationship that exists/arises between the partner and the abuser of alcohol be explained, from different perspectives and views? - How can the conception of codependency be defined? - How can the codependency find expression in the partner to the abuser of alcohol? - Is there any criticism about the definition and the use of the conception of codependency? - Our purpose with the essay was to understand how a partner to an abuser of alcohol can be effected of her partner´s abuse. Our central questions were: - How can the partner´s effect, of her partner´s abuse of alcohol, find expression and how can the relationship that exists/arises between the partner and the abuser of alcohol be explained, from different perspectives and views? - How can the conception of codependency be defined? - How can the codependency find expression in the partner to the abuser of alcohol? - Is there any criticism about the definition and the use of the conception of codependency? We wrote a theoretical essay where we used source analysis as method. We used available research findings from documents and analysed the research in the base on different theories. We found that the partner, as a reaction of a stressful situation, acted in the way she thought should solve the crisis. Denial became a necessity for the partner to stand the reality. We discovered that the partner´s personality changed with the development of her partner´s abuse of alcohol. We also observed that when the partner adjusted to the abuser of alcohol, she often began to lead an isolated life. (Less)
