- The idea of integration has varied during different periods of time. The purpose with this study was to examine the meaning of integration in a specific “integration project”.
How are the ambitions put into practice in a specific project? How is “good” integration defined? How is the education for the participants of the project organized in order to lead to the goal: to earn one’s living. These questions were answered through qualitative interviews with six of the employees in the project and examination of the account of the project. These questions were answered through qualitative interviews with six of the employees in the project and examination of the account of the project. From a social constructionist perspective, the study showed that the interviewers see an employment as the key to integration. The participants of the project are considered to be in need of a rather extensive knowledge of the Swedish society to increase his or her ability to get a job. One important part of the project is the adjustment to individual needs and it contains practical training, education in the Swedish language and information about society. The study also showed that to reach the goal of “good” integration both the immigrant and the society need to adapt. In the project it is important with the cooperation between the municipalities which are included and also to have common principles for the participants. (Less)
