Abstract
Installation of heat recovery system in multi-family houses
- A comparison between a central system and an individual system. Energy- efficiency of buildings is a popular subject of discussion. If we are going to reduce the energy consumption in our buildings we need to install more effective ventilation systems that utilize the heat in the exhaust air. Exhaust and supply air ventilation with heat recovery, FTX system is a venti-lation system that recovers the heat from the exhaust air and uses it for heating the incoming air. If we are going to reduce the energy consumption in our buildings we need to install more effective ventilation systems that utilize the heat in the exhaust air. Exhaust and supply air ventilation with heat recovery, FTX system is a venti-lation system that recovers the heat from the exhaust air and uses it for heating the incoming air. It also keeps up a better indoor climate than natural draught ventilation. That is positive due to our changing habits with increased mois-ture indoor. Many house owners hesitate to rebuild the ventilation system in already exist-ing multi- family houses because of ignorance, shortage of solutions that are simple and the high investment expenditure. When a FTX system is going to be installed you can choose a central system that supports the whole building, decentralized systems or an apartment system. The report starts with a general explanation about the installation of a central system and an apartment system, with consideration of layout and costs.
In the report I also present my suggestions applied on an existing multi- family house in Helsingborg, owned by Helsingborgshem. A comparison has been made between a central system and an apartment system. My suggestions are based on drawings, communication with Helsingborgshem and visits in a simi-lar house in the same block. Costs have been calculated with help from my own sketches. The result shows that the two systems are possible to install, but there is a dif-ference between them. These differences are foremost space for new ventila-tion ducts and aggregate, fire protection solutions, investment expenditures and costs for management. It is possible to reconstruct the ventilation system in old houses but it is impor-tant to really think of the house condition and take advantage of it.
