- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to examine the views of adoption Social Workers on adoptive parenting in relation to existing norms regarding parenting. Qualitative interviews were conducted with seven Social Workers in the field of family law and adoption in different municipalities in Skåne. As theoretical framework we used gender theories by Butler as well as Hirdman, combined with Lipsky’s theory on street-level bureaucrats as users of discretion. Our study shows that there are several contradictions embedded in the Social Workers’ views on mothering and fathering, as Social Workers rely upon the norm at the same time as they oppose it.
