I`ve made a qualitative study based on four interviews with former young heroin addicts, and every one developed a heroin addiction when they were between 17-19 years old. The purpose of this essay is to describe and analyze how the young heroin addicts families and surroundings responded to and influenced the youths in their drug abuse. This essay has four key issues, which is: How does the abusive young people’s parents and surroundings views on them? How responded and acted the young heroin users families and surroundings against the young heroin addicts? How did the young drug addicts parents and surroundings influenced the young people through its approach, treatment and behavior? How did the young drug addicts values of their own influenced them? I have mainly based the analysis of my results on Howard S Becker’s and Edwin Lemert`s ideas about the conspiracy theory. I have also supplemented the analysis with Philip Lalander`s research on heroin as a subculture. In summary, the young people become negatively affected both emotionally and in terms of their continued drug abuse dependence on their families and surroundings views, treatment and behavior which may had a stigmatization effect on young people. Even the young people’s own thoughts of addicts can be seen as the final step in the process of the young people to develop a deviant identity. (Less)
