Abstract
This report is a result of a Master thesis that was carried out at Dresser Wayne AB and at
the Division of Machine Design at the Department of Design Sciences LTH.
The thesis was written as a product development report and essentially follows the
method described by Ulrich and Eppinger found in the publication Product Design and
Development.
The objective of the Master Thesis was to design and build a prototype of a new hose
retractor for Dresser Wayne’s new generation of dispensers. One retractor is supposed to
retract all hoses on one side of the dispenser.
The new retractor concept was based on a pulley system. Tests showed that the way to
power the retractor was with a rubber band. The testes were preformed in an experiment

The new retractor concept was based on a pulley system. Tests showed that the way to
power the retractor was with a rubber band. The testes were preformed in an experiment
dispenser on Dresser Wayne.
The pulley concept is a simple and uncomplicated solution to the problem that could
compete with Dresser Wayne’s existing retractors. The concept needs further test and
development before it can be used in a commercial fuel dispensers. (Less)
