- Abstract
- Title: Dance improvisation, “…then you can’t say that anything is right or wrong, but then again maybe you can…”
The purpose of this study is to examine the goals and intentions of teaching dance improvisation. In this study, I have made four interviews using qualitative method with informants who are teaching the subject. Through literature and qualitative interviews, the study sheds light on dance improvisation as a concept and as a phenomenon. The informants give a picture of their teaching methods and of what it means to improvise in dance. They also describe what goals they want to achieve with their teaching. The results illustrate that dance improvisation includes both explicit and implicit aims. The teaching of dance improvisation... The teaching of dance improvisation aims at developing the dancer to a maximum in the art of dance, but its nature is also to build character and to change the personality of the dancer. The improvisation demands a special attitude not only towards dance but towards everything one meets in life. The ideal for the improviser is to become a self-actualized, creative person who in the study is described as being free. (Less) - Abstract (Swedish)
