- Abstract
- This Master’s thesis aims to identify aspects of the school librarians’ accessibility in the school library, which is the integral part of the local public library and where integration bears the meaning of two spheres of activities sharing both space and recourses. One of the aspects concerns the design of the library organization and its impact on the school librarians’ accessibility. Another aspect concerns the possibility for the school librarian to independently plan the organization of work in order to achieve accessibility. The third aspect concerns the impact of the school library’s geographical position in order to accomplish a durable collaboration between the school librarians and the specific users of the school library.

In order to retrieve thesis material, three different parts of method has been used. One part consists of interview material from librarians actively working in the sphere of activity of the school library. Another part consists of a questionnaire survey with participating pupils and the third part consists of a documentary study including library and school documents. While the interviews aimed to look into the perspective of the librarians concerning the possibility to be accessible, the questionnaire survey aimed to get a view of the pupils’ opinion of the accessibility of their school librarian. And the document study aimed to reveal how governing documents deal with the sphere of activity of the school library.
Our result indicates that the accessibility of the school librarian is dependent on the design of the library organization, which states the conditions of the organization of work. And these factors, in relation to control documents and cooperation with the specific users of the school library show that the integration, in some parts, can be viewed as an obstruction in accessibility.
