Human rights, specifically the Convention on the Rights of the Child, emphasize Children’s right to special protection. Corporate Social Responsibility is an important concept for companies to take greater responsibility for the society they operate in.
The purpose of this essay is to examine corporation’s responsibility based on the theory of CSR and the Convention on the Rights of the Child when the consumers are children. The conclusion of the essay is that a child as a consumer sometimes is in need of special protection. But in both CSR and the Convention on the Rights of the Child there is an ambiguity of what companies can do for the children. The results also show that the politics need to sort out the exact situation of children as consumers. A greater legal obligation for companies is a necessity when their consumers are children.
