Description of method: This thesis is based on five rappers’/hip-hop-producers’ stories and experiences through open interviews, in which the rapper/producer can describe his story about hip-hop without certain frames. With certain rappers, the interviews have been held at my place and with others through internet with the chatting program skype. Each interview is between 25-30 minutes. Theories that has been used in the analysis are theories of subculture and identity by Ove Sernhede,”Field, capital and habitus” by Bourdieu and”Accounts” by Lyman and Scott, among others.

Conclusion: Hip-hop is today a multi-faceted art form that has become part of the whole youth culture. It could be the commercialization of youth culture that has contributed to the growth of hip-hop. Hip-hop could also have different meanings for the interviewed persons. Some of them arrange events, like battles, rhyme-competitions. Others help youth with problems to create hip-hop. (Less)
