Abstract
The objective of this study is to increase knowledge in Sweden, concerning elevator use in fire situations. This includes designing hardware and human strategies necessary for people and fire department in their use of fire elevators.

This report addresses an important aspect in making the elevator safe to use during a fire. By using a pressurisation concept, smoke is prevented from reaching the fire elevator and its lobby. Another important aspect is human behaviour and interaction with the fire elevator, which also is addressed in this report.

The use of fire elevators implies a change in risk compared to traditional stairwell evacuation. This report contains a probabilistic comparison between stairwell and fire elevator evacuation.
