The aim of this essay was to analyze social integration, and see which factors combines in a social integration process, in hope of getting a greater understanding concerning social integration. The selections of our study are based on both interviews with organizations and immigrants. We contacted two established voluntary organizations, Save the children and the Red Cross in Sweden, and through them we came in contact with three projects, Internationella huset, Cykelskolan and Barn nära dig. We have also done two interview with two immigrants, one woman and one man. We used a qualitative method with semi-structured interviews. We used Diaz (1997) integration theory to help us to understand the complexity in social integration.
Social integration is versatile; there are a several factors that combine in a social integration process. Our study showed that the most important factor is the interaction between people, and the language is also a major element in the process. We are critical against criteria’s in the social integration process, because the process is far too complex for categorize. Integration is a mutual process between immigrants and Swedes, both part must have an open- mindedness against each other and show understanding for each other’s culture. For establish new integrations activities you must have a prejudice concerning the different rates and the distinction between gender in the social integration process. The responsibility for integration is divided between the society and the individual person. The society must show openness for the individual person, and at the same time the person must have an inner motivation to be a part of the society. The locality and media can influence an individual person in their social integration process. Assimilation, lose culture identity and peer pressure are a few example which risk there are in a social integration process. (Less)
