Criminal Delinquency is by no means a new phenomenon among young males. It has become
increasingly serious during the course of the last 20 years and pertinent acts of criminal

aim of this study is to establish just what the risk factors of delinquency are. How do social
workers and probation officers approach young offenders and what experiences relating to
risk factors tend to emerge from individual practice? I have systematically commissioned
thorough qualitative study involving interviews from different officers who primarily
specialise with this targetgroup. The analysis has been based on Hirschi’s theory about social
connections. The final result ultimately evinced that the most prevalent risk factors appear to
be low self-esteem, lack of self-command, inadequate nurturing and a neuropsychiatric
diagnosis. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that there are considerable differences
between the officers involved, which also entailed a skewed final outcome. The probation
officers experience more group recruitments, the lack of resources at schools and that
prosecutions of youths are not a priority in courts. The social workers experience it is the
learned behaviour and neuropsychiatric diagnosis
