Abstract
This report, written as an educational feature in a mandatory course at the Fire engineering program, Lund University, is a fire safety evaluation of “AF-borgen” in Lund, Sweden. The report focuses on human safety regarding evacuation and analysis of possible fire hazards with
the designed fire. Studies have also been made, where different parameters has been changed such as faster growth rate and a larger rate of heat release, to ensure the validity of the results. Structural damage or act of terrorism has not been taken into consideration in this paper.

The building is a historic castle that now is a part of the Academic Society and is visited by a large number of guests. Analysis has been made for two major fire scenarios, in the night club and the theater.
In the theater a possible fire hazard has been identified where an initial fire could progress in a storage area directly below the stage. Generally for this case, evacuation is possible to execute
within the time limit for the fire to reach critical conditions, with exception where an existing smoke hatch was kept closed. This simulation was made to graphically show the importance of maintaining installed fire protection systems. The result of evacuation of the night club due to a fire in the wardrobe is not as convincing. Two major factors in this scenario are the growth rate and number of guests. With a reasonable
number of guests and a fast fire growth rate evacuation is possible. But with an ultra fast or a case where the possibility to evacuate from the main exits is eliminated the results are not convincing. (Less)
