Abstract
This report contains an evaluation of the personal safety in case of fire at Köpstaden, Skara, Sweden. The building is a regular shopping mall in one storey. The mall is designed as one fire cell, this is allowed thanks to the main fire protection system, sprinklers. Five possible fire scenarios were chosen. The scenarios represent the most critical fires likely to occur in the building. All the scenarios were evaluated from a personal safety point of view. The fire modeling has mainly been done using hand calculations and fire growth reports. This report contains an evaluation of the personal safety in case of fire at Köpstaden, Skara, Sweden. The building is a regular shopping mall in one storey. The scenarios represent the most critical fires likely to occur in the building. All the scenarios were evaluated from a personal safety point of view. egress analysis computer program, Simulex. Property and structural damage have not been taken into account, nor has the ventilation system.
The main conclusion of the report is that the building has good safety in case of fire. The fact that the building is made in one storey and the wideness of the fire escape routes facilitates an evacuation of the building. The report includes suggestions for improvement of the building’s fire safety design. The most urgent things to attend to is to clear all escape routes from rubbish and to secure the maintenance of the escape routes. Further the routines for the staff in case of fire must be clarified to ensure satisfying evacuation. (Less)
