Abstract
This project has been a part of the education of Fire Safety Engineers at Lund Institute of Technology. The purpose of this report is to evaluate the safety of the persons inside Birger Jarl in case of a fire. Birger Jarl is mostly used as a nightclub and can host up to 630 persons. The focus in this report is to evaluate the possibility of safe egress from the building in case of a fire and estimate potential hazards during the egress. It does not look into structural stability or property damage caused by a fire. The main threats have been considered as rapid smoke filling, increasing gas temperatures and decreasing visibility. In estimating the threats CFAST and Argos has been used. The modelling of the evacuations times were done in... (More)

In estimating the threats CFAST and Argos has been used. The modelling of the evacuations times were done in SIMULEX. Conclusions show that the safety of the persons evacuating the building in case of a fire does not meet a satisfactory level. Improvements to increase the safety of persons evacuating have to bee done, suggestion of such is included in this report. (Less)
