- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to examine the collaboration between organizations that care for mentally retarded persons with added psychiatric problems when they have the need of institutional care in the psychiatry. I have both looked at which kinds of collaboration there are and then looked closer on the coordinated care plan. I’ve also looked at how the organizations adjust themselves after the care users in the situations they need to collaborate. I have used a qualitative method with four semi-structured interviews with representatives from both the psychiatry and the disability care in a municipality in southern Sweden. I have used two kinds of theories to analyse the empirical material I got from the interviews: collaboration... (More)

I have used a qualitative method with four semi-structured interviews with representatives from both the psychiatry and the disability care in a municipality in southern Sweden. I have used two kinds of theories to analyse the empirical material I got from the interviews: collaboration theory and new institutional theory. With that I have concluded that there are tree forms of collaboration except for the collaboration during the institutional care and the coordinated care planning; collaboration between the care users homes and the LSS administrators, collaboration between the different organizations during an LSS investigation and collaboration between the care users homes and the non-institutional psychiatric care. The coordinated care planning during the institutional psychiatric care takes place in two forms depending on if the care user already has existing help or he’s new to the system or need more help. When a care user already have help and gets increasing psychiatric problems the first adjustment that takes place is that in the home and working environment. If the user still needs to go to the institutional psychiatric care the adjustment of the environment is smaller, it’s not a good environment to be in for a long time and it’s not always the psychiatry tries to find out what the care users needs are. Except for pure environmental adjustment one of the most usual adjustments towards the care users are adjustment of the way you speak. To try to be more pedagogic and make sure the care user understands is important to all of my interview subjects. (Less)
