- Abstract
- The climate on earth is changing and to deal with this problem, a method called climate change adaptation is used. Some researchers consider this a new method while others claim that it is a version of risk management. Based on this discrepancy, this master thesis aims to answer the following research question “What are the differences and similarities in practice between climate change adaptation, in the form of climate change adaptation projects under the UNDP GEF and risk management?”. In order to answer this question practical comparisons were made after studying six climate change adaptation projects collected from GEF’s online database. The project goal, project objective and activities where extracted from the documentations and compared with a constructed theoretical framework for risk management. The conclusion is that the six projects show great similarities with parts of the risk management process, Risk reduction and Risk control. However, the studied projects seems to be a part of a bigger national climate change adaptation work and hence further studies need to be consulted before excessive conclusions could be drawn about the similarities with the whole risk management process.
