But what happened when the national coverage is interrupted by international, when international politics becomes national? This will be the focus for this thesis. What happens to the discourse regarding the Swedish prime minister when Sweden was put in the decision making seat of the European Union? Is it possible to find any differences in regarding the discourse between the prime minister as leader of the European Union council presidency and national political situations?
The two situations are different in a lot of ways, perhaps first and foremost who the prime minister represents. During six months is it not only the Swedish population that requires attention. The research showed little difference between the discourses, despite a difference in work load, which was a result that was not really expected. (Less)
