Abstract
This report is part of a master’s thesis in Mechanical Engineering whit Industrial Design at the Faculty of Engineering, Lund University. This thesis was performed at Prodelox, a consulting firm within the field of product development. The area of expertise is in construction, industrial design, project management and calculation. Among the clients are large and small companies mainly from Sweden and Norway within a large variety of businesses.

The purpose of this thesis is, from certain frameworks and word of value, to compile design suggestions of a fertilizer hopper to one of Väderstad Verkens upcoming products/product families. In the product family there are two different hoppers, one is carried by the tractor with a capacity of 750-1000 litres, and one charioteered with a capacity of 4000-6000 litres. The hoppers are manufactured in polyethylene. The focus in this thesis has been on the carried hopper. The design of the hopper shall reflect the words of value that are associated with the product. The aim is to develop a creative and sustainable prospective design direction, which emphasise the paradigm shift between sheet metal and plastic and show ascendency with existing range of products at Väderstad Verken.
The project follows the process of design methodology. In the initial research the specifications for the product where identified through literature studies, interviews, observations, trend analysis and benchmarking. The gathered information where compiled in a function analysis. The research where followed by a concept phase where ideas are generated with different brainstorming methods. The ideas are then developed into three different concepts. The concepts were evaluated in collaboration with Väderstad Verken and developed further.
The final concept has a more attractive design compared to the sheet hopper and reflected the words of value with emphasis on speed, precision and usability. The carried hopper manufactured in polyethylene has a capacity of 900 litres. The larger hoppers final design shows a clear relation with the smaller hopper. (Less)
