Cost analysis Of process based projects at Schneider Electric
(2011) MIO920Production Management
- Abstract
- The report aims to determine and explain differences in the cost structures of the Detailed Energy Audit-phase of Energy Performance Contracting-projects at Schneider Electrics Energy Solutions in Denmark and Sweden.
Method:
A longitudinal and a cross-dimensional study are conducted on eight projects. Quantitative data collected from project documentation and qualitative data acquired through interviews are used in the study. A survey study, which allows quantitative and qualitative data to be acquired, is part of the project.

Conclusion: Keywords:
Performing EPC-projects is a highly process-based undertaking. Achieving cost efficiencies in the DEA-phase should not be done at the expense of lower performance or by cutting corners in the process, since this may have severe economical consequences in following project phases. Significant differences of costs in the DEA-phase of Danish and Swedish projects have been determined. Differences in the organization of projects and the way in which they are performed have been found. More extensive pre-design in the DEA-phase of projects is determined to be one of the main causes for high costs in Denmark. A high use of external consultants due to a lack of resources is another.
