- Today about 1 billion people are experiencing a violation towards their human right to food. Since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights the question of food have been debated in the for a of development. How we look at development is based on out conceptual frameworks, on our knowledge about the world we live in and how which ways we want to see it prosper.
In this thesis I examine and analyze the discourse that has been surrounding food and hunger in the UN Food and Agricultural Organization, FAO between the years of 1974-2006. By connecting the changes in the discourse a pattern which correlate with the changes in the international political and economic environment appear and become open for discussion.

I claim that many of the strategies that has been put forward and adopted during these years have been molded with the purpose of following a political agenda. By identifying these political agendas we are able to better examine which strategies have managed to fulfill their purpose and
which have not. By applying a human rights-based approach, we can unleash the potential of putting human rights in the center of development, and as the stage from were we start. This could be a way to further put people in the center of development, instead of economic growth. (Less)
