Abstract
This bachelor thesis is about digital textbooks and how the market views its role and development. Educational publishers and schools are not sure how the market for digital educational materials will develop. The participants on the market are uncertain about how much to invest in production and purchasing. In order to create a description of the situation that is up to date, representatives from two educational publishers were interviewed. In addition, some articles on the subject have been used to create a comprehensive picture of the digital textbook market. Various theories concerning media and their impact on society and man were used in order to analyze the material.

The analysis shows that the market is in need of both printed and digital materials, as they serve different functions and complement each other. Digital textbooks offer new opportunities in education with their new functions and features that the printed textbook can not offer. But the fear that digital textbooks will not generate profit is justified. In the end it is up to politicians to realize the potential of digital textbooks and provide educational aids to help integrate them into teaching in a well thought-out and functional way. (Less)
