Abstract (Swedish)
Abstract
The aim of this study was to expand knowledge about the effects of the MTFC-treatment (Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care) and to identify different factors inside or outside of the MTFC-program that might have influenced treatment. Semi- structured interviews were used to explore six youths´ experiences during MTCF-treatment and their life conditions after completion of treatment. The MTFC-program is a treatment program for children and adolescents with antisocial behaviour. The studies data was analyzed using the thematic method. All of the participants show reduced antisocial behavior and some of the participants have completely put that behind them. However, several participants continued using substances to different extents. The... (More)
The aim of this study was to expand knowledge about the effects of the MTFC-treatment (Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care) and to identify different factors inside or outside of the MTFC-program that might have influenced treatment. The results show positive changes regarding improved schooling, increased association with prosocial friends, and discontinued criminal activities. One conclusion from this study is that it is of importance to bring about changes in the family situation during treatment if the progress made during the MTFC-program is to be upheld. The study indicates that the program´s multidimensional approach, where interventions were made on several different levels and in several different ways in the youths´ lives were effective. Components in the program that influenced the treatment in a positive direction differ even though some factors, such as supportive relationships with at least one adult and the foster family, were shared by several participants.
