Abstract (Swedish)
A macellum in ancient Rome was a marketbuilding, distinct from the city´s loud noice and throng. These marketbuildings had distinct variations from the more common and wellknown fora venalia, such as Forum Holitorium, Forum Boarium and Forum Suarium. The major difference is that it was set in a specific building, not as an outdoor open market.

In this master (one year) thesis, I am going to analyze the three known macella of Rome and their topographical situation and their possible connection to aqueducts. I will examine the topographical conditions, and reinforce with ancient authors who mention these markets in text. My method will be a critical view of the work of Claire De Ruyt. I will take use of the ancient authors she refers to,... (More)

I will take use of the ancient authors she refers to, but also add some other sources that could be useful in this thesis. In doing this, I wish to get closer to the roman way of life and through that create a more nuanced and vivid picture of Rome and its topography. (Less)
