Mobility and productivity among Swedish inventors – a cause for causality?

Ahlin, Lina LU (2011) NEKM02 20111

Abstract (Swedish)
In this thesis the background characteristics as well as the mobility and productivity of Swedish inventors is investigated. Swedish inventors tend to be highly educated, with an education in engineering or natural sciences. They are to a large extent male and in their mid-forties.
Since there is possible an endogenous relationship between mobility and productivity, instrumental variables applied to count data are utilized. The results indicate that there is likely a negative causal link between mobility and productivity where mobile inventors are less productive. The relationship between productivity and mobility is also negative, but due to weak instruments a causal link is difficult to establish. The results imply that further studies... (More)
