Acquisitions: Can takeovers be predicted using financial data?
(2011) NEKK01 20111Department of Economics
- Abstract (Swedish)
- The purpose with this essay is to examine whether there are significant differences between companies which have takeover targets and those which have not. Furthermore the possibility of predicting future acquisitions by studying key ratios is examined. Existing theories of acquisition motives and foremost previous studies with the purpose of constructing models for predicting takeover targets have been used as a theoretical basis. By studying 54 companies that between 2006 and 2010 have been acquisition candidates, a logistic regression model has been used to demonstrate the likelihood of a takeover. The results that were obtained have not been significant enough to predict acquisition from the financial data that was used and our... (More)

However differences between certain variables can be observed. (Less)
