The inequalities, the essay show, are unfair and Sweden, according to the UDHR, has a responsibility to take the proposal seriously. Empirical studies shows that the main concern, fear of loosing economic efficiency from the taxes needed for transferring money to the poor, is not scientifically grounded but in fact that such a trade-off either doesn't exist or in the long-run is compensated by positive effects. Such effects might be children growing up to be more efficient and higher equality. Finally theories why it hasn't been taken serious is suggested. For example that a growing rich class has outgrown the poor which isn't able any more to put up a fight and a general unwillingness from the political power to beat poverty. (Less)
