- The aim of this study is to examine how flute teachers, working in the municipal Swedish music schools, describe the music education, focusing on the development of the beginner's technical skills of flute playing from a hermeneutic point of view. The research questions are: What are the flute teachers´ aims of their teaching? What basic skills of flute playing do they consider as important in the students' initial development? How do flute teachers practically work to help the student to require basic skills? How do flute teachers discuss development in a short and long-term perspective? - The aim of this study is to examine how flute teachers, working in the municipal Swedish music schools, describe the music education, focusing on the development of the beginner's technical skills of flute playing from a hermeneutic point of view. The research questions are: What are the flute teachers´ aims of their teaching? What basic skills of flute playing do they consider as important in the students' initial development? How do flute teachers practically work to help the student to require basic skills? How do flute teachers discuss development in a short and long-term perspective? The theoretical background contains a description of qualitative research and hermeneutics, a short exposition of the French tradition, instrumental technique and the basics of flute playing. Flute method books commonly used in municipal music schools are also described. The empirical material consists of qualitative interview studies with flute teachers. They express their aims of their teaching, which basic skills of flute playing they find important and examples how the actual work with the basics can be realized. The technical skills of flute playing are considered to be part of the education whose core is to make music. Two important flute basics in the initial phase are embouchure (required for further tone development) and the position of the hands. These are connected to other basic skills. The repertoire is important in the process of developing the skills of flute playing. (Less)

och flöjtistiska byggstenar. Några av de flöjtskolor som riktar sig till elever på kulturskolor presenteras. Empirin utgörs av fyra kvalitativa intervjuer med flöjtpedagoger. De berättar om sina mål med
undervisningen, vilka flöjtistiska byggstenar de tycker är viktiga att grundlägga, tankar om progression och ger i olika utsträckning exempel på hur arbetet med byggstenarna kan göras. Det flöjtistiska hantverket ses som en del i undervisningen, vars kärna är att musicera. Två
byggstenar som flöjtpedagogerna anser vara speciellt viktiga från början är embouchure (som utgör en grund för en bra tonbildning) och handställning. Dessa byggstenar hänger samman med andra flöjtistiska byggstenar. Undervisningsmaterialet är viktigt i arbetet med det flöjtistiska hantverket. (Less)
