The first is the standpoint on liberty being a right in terms of protection against interference with the principals that make out what makes an individual free. Although the other point of view would argue that freedom requires more than protection against interference, as freedom needs certain preconditions such as one is not only free on the basis of being able to express their political opinion in public. Freedom requires welfare such as education, health care etc. as those lay the basis of individual needs. Regarding human rights the main argument here is whether a human right is a right to non-interference and be treated a certain way, or if it contains a right to an object. This essay contains a text and argument analysis about liberty in relation to welfare. (Less)
