Abstract
This essay analyses important actors of the essential problem with child labour on the cocoa plantations in Côte d'Ivoire. The purpose of this study is an examination of the various perspectives and factors which contribute to the continuation of the problem. Despite the pressure of responsibility the chocolate company Nestlé got in 2001, it seems like little has changed. They signed a protocol where they gave promises of strong measuers, however that protocol has not changed the problem. This essay analyses important actors of the essential problem with child labour on the cocoa plantations in Côte d'Ivoire. The purpose of this study is an examination of the various perspectives and factors which contribute to the continuation of the problem. They signed a protocol where they gave promises of strong measuers, however that protocol has not changed the problem. This essay prioritizes the childrens own wishes regarding work and therefore a discussion about African culture is relevant. One major theory of the essay is whether the conventions about child labour in international law have a western point of view and how that can be problematic in the implementation. The most important aspects to consider are the childrens views, the companys activities and the directions in international law. By analyzing different arguments from the aspects, the conclusion is that the context you are working in is of great importance when dealing with a problem containing several significant actors. By working in this direction a solution will be found for decreasing the numbers of children who are being used in the cocoa plantations. (Less)
