Abstract (Swedish)

(More)

Abstract
The study examines the construction of the female foodie and how female foodies are allowed to create their foodie identities. By examining foodie culture from a gender perspective, we intend to find a deeper understanding of female foodies’ consumption patterns, and if they consume in a similar way as male foodies. With support from previous research, we aim to show the implications for gender and consumption theory by exploring how women compared to men have access to different kinds of identities and how these women are allowed to live out their foodie identities.

We conclude that female foodies have to construct themselves as both caring and pleasure seeking. They have to combine contradictory feminine and masculine values in order... (More)

We conclude that female foodies have to construct themselves as both caring and pleasure seeking. They have to combine contradictory feminine and masculine values in order to achieve status in the foodie culture. Although the masculine values dominate more clearly than previous research has suggested, the female foodie is locked into a feminine position; caring through cooking is a substantial part of the female foodie identity.
