Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate possible energy saving measures for the area
Rådhusrätten in Lund, Sweden, owned by Lunds Kommuns Fastighets AB, LKF. This study also
included designing a suitable solar heating system to satisfy the hot tap water need and a
photovoltaic system to satisfy the electricity need of the office. The work also included buildning
investigation of the inhabitants energy habits and energy use.
To find the optimal tilt angel for solar irradiation over the year, simulations where done by the
simulation program from Joint Research Center (JRC) European Commission. To be able to study the
shading effects from solar panels when placed on metall stands, three specific solar panels where

The most optimal tilt angel of solar panels and photovoltaic cells in Lund is 39⁰ from the horizontal
plane. The most practically angel of tilt is 40⁰ because the standard stand comes in 30⁰ - 65⁰ in step
of 5⁰. To satisfy the hot tap water for the area Rådhusrätten, solar panels of 1800 m2 - 1290 m2 with
an efficiency of 50% - 70% are needed and can be placed on the buildings flat roofs. The photovoltaic
cells can be placed on the tilted roof of the workshop building at Magistratsvägen 23. The
photovoltaic surface will in that case be 85,5 m2. Depending on the type of photovoltaic cells 5% -
15% of the annual electricity need of the office building would be covered by the solar electricity.
The response rate of the energy questionnaire was 16 %. Because of this low response rate no
general conclusions about the energy behavior of the tenants on Rådhusrätten can be drawn.
However, for the household that did respond the behavior and use of energy is relatively low. The
only remarkable fact in the household’s habits is that 1/3 of the households rinse the dishes under
running hot water and that the majority of the households still have incandescent light bulbs in their
homes.
To convert the ventilation system to FT or FTX needs further investigation of the air tightness of the
buildings. Installation of heat exchanger in the drain can be a profitable investment if the distance
between the water intake and the drain is not too far. (Less)
