- Abstract
- This thesis studies how the development of globalization has affected sovereign states patterns of armed conflicts. The hypothesis is that the effects of globalization have helped to decrease the number of inter-state conflicts, since states will be forced to cooperate, while the intra-state conflicts will increase because of the internal pressure that globalization creates inside the states.
The methods used to answer the main question are quantitative methods. These are descriptive statistics and a logistic regression. The results are analysed with the help of the english schools thought of the international society and aided by prior research on globalization and armed conflicts.

The methods used to answer the main question are quantitative methods. These are descriptive statistics and a logistic regression. The results are analysed with the help of the english schools thought of the international society and aided by prior research on globalization and armed conflicts.
The results are that globalization has not changed the patterns of armed conflicts during the period between 1972 and 2004. This is explained by the international society's existing rules and norms that inhibits inter-state armed conflicts despite an increase of the average globalization. The collapse of the Soviet Union 1991 also lead to an increase in globalization which could be interpreted as a shift in the normative principle of the international society. (Less)
